IT Pro: Updating MSI Package via GPO (Xink Client)

This article is intended for use by the Exchange Administrator, IT Administrator and System Administrator.

In our previous article on software deployment, we walked through the process of deploying the MSI Package via GPO.

Of course, when there is a newly released MSI, we recommend updating your Xink Client.

1.) Download the MSI package from Xink portal and store it to a shared network folder.

2.) After saving your MSI upgrade in your network share, edit your existing deployment GPO.
For this example, the GPO name is Xink App. For a refresher, we will navigate to ‘Computer Configuration/Policies/Software Settings/Software Installation’.

3.) Right-click on ‘Software Installation’ and select ‘add a new package’
Browse and select your new MSI. After selecting ‘OK’, set the deployment method to ‘Advanced’ and press ‘OK’.

4.) Select the ‘Upgrades’ tab, press ‘Add’, and then ‘OK’.

5.) From here, you can change the upgrade pattern for your MSI.
By default, the upgrade pattern is to uninstall the old package and to install the updated MSI.
After pressing ‘OK’, you should see the replace package listed under the ‘Upgrades’ tab

6.) This method places both applications in the same GPO, as seen in the screenshot below. You will know that the second package is an upgraded version because of the green arrow icon pointing up.

7.) Run gpo update/force and reboot your machine.

8.) Check the version of your Xink Client.

NOTE: If you’re unable to locate your previous GPO or you deleted the old GPO, you need to create a new GPO and select Redeploy application. Redeploying this application will reinstall the application everywhere it is already installed.
